Internet Security & Anti virus Software
Trend Micro Internet Security www.trendmicro.com
Our customers have had much success with this product. We use it on our business computers and recommend it to our family members. It provides fire walling, spam filtering and virus protection. It has a 30 day trial and free download so you can try it before you buy it. This product can be installed on three computers for one purchase.
Kapersky Lab www.usa.kaspersky.com
This is a non-american product that performs very well. We love to use this product on our file servers. Many of our customers use it on their PC's and we find it highly effective. It provides fire walling, spam filtering and virus protection. It runs best on newer computers. This product can be installed on three computers for one purchase.
AVG FREE www.avg.com (this link goes to www.download.com)
AVG is probably the best "Free" anti virus / security software. Please consider that you do get what you pay for. This product absolutely works and is fine for low use computers. We can't help wonder what is missing from this free product that you get when you buy it.
AVAST www.avast.com
AVAST provided a viable free anti virus only product. It has a small footprint (needs few computer resources) and actively provides virus protection. Avast licenses their products for only one computer. We still wonder what is missing in the free product.
Malware Software
Malware Bytes www.malwarebytes.org
Malware usually tells you that you have terrible issues with your computer and you must spend money now to be saved! DONT BUY IT!
This free software has single handedly saved our customers thousands of dollars! It is the only software we use to remove the evil of malicious, extortionist ic software. You can always trust it.
To use it - download the software and answer all prompts to install it. At installation, it will update automatically and show the scan screen. Click on "Quick Scan". If it finds anything, it will display a button that says "Show Results" when the scan is complete. Click on that and then click on the "Remove All" button. Your PC will want to reboot and the malware will be gone. It doesn't get any better!
Picture Management
Google's PIcasa www.picasa.google.com
This is free photo editing software that has been around for many years but was recently purchased by the guys at Google inc. They have been improving on it! It will search your PC and find all pictures. You can edit them, add text to them, make gift CD's, collages (in pdf form) and make You Tube videos. There are also many You Tube videos on how to use it.
Best of all, it's free. Imagine!
Adobe Photoshop / Suites www.adobe.com
If you have the time and money to get serious about photo's, graphics, web products or whatever, Adobe has the product. These are not for the faint at heart. They are professional products that product professional results. They have great on-line support and many colleges offer classes.
Music Management
ITUNES www.apple.com/itunes
We support all computers. Most of the world uses PC's. However, when Steve Jobs decided to return to Apple, they overturned the music world. You can't do better than I-everything when it comes to music. Just do it (oops wrong brand).
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
It's free and comes on your Microsoft PC. For importing CD's, burning CD's and just listening to music it's reliable and easy to use. Most folks say it's awesome. When your ready to take your music on the road, your library will even convert over to itunes so you can sync it with your Pod / Pad.
Free Browsers
It is VERY good to have a 2nd Internet browser on your computer. If you use an apple, you will use Safari by default. If you use a PC, Internet Explorer. These other browser will compliment your main browser and allow some extra flexibility if you have a challenge with a site or with your main browser itself. All of these are typically fast and will import your favorites / bookmarks from your main browser.
Fire fox www.mozilla.com
Mozilla produces this free browser and bills it as faster, safer, easier to use and easy to upgrade. We have found that all to be true most of the time. It doesn't like some sites and we have to resort to our main browser occasionally. It does a great job of importing favorites and home page.
Google Chrome www.google.com/chrome
This is probably one of the fastest browsers on the market. It changes every day practically so updates are frequent. It has more compatibility issues than fire fox but if your researching or using the web a lot, it screams.
Opera www.opera.com/browser
Here is another Hot Rod! This browser zoom all around the internet. Our customers like it on their phones (don't tell Droid!). For realtors etc, it doesn't like some business sites that are Microsoft only developers so some housing database don't work well with it. But you'll get there FAST!!
Video Conference
A cheap camera, high speed internet and a piece of software is all you need. Most devices come with a video camera. All laptops built since 2009 have included one. So have all-in-ones. If you have a desktop, you'll need to add a camera unless your monitor came with one. Most phones have one, but you need one on the same side as your screen on a personal device (most phones have the camera on the other side).
Skype www.skype.com
Free video conferencing between any device with a camera and an internet connection. Many of our customers us it with family back home. They offer phone service and other "paid for" services as well.
ooVoo www.oovoo.com
Skype may be popular but this is a major contender in the video conferencing ring. The free version allows up to three people to share video. The upgraded version allows 6. You can leave a video message for someone if they are not on-line (nice). Runs on PC and Apple, has I. M. and file transfer built in.
Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash www.adobe.com
The .pdf standard. While your there, download the flash player and the shockwave player to keep your device current.
